Museum of Flight - Seattle, Washington — Spruce Goose - Evergreen, Oregon

Corncob to Turbine

The world of aviation comes to life in the many airships on display in these two museums.

Many of the airplanes are pre-1970 era.  The ingenuity, craftsmanship and ‘will to fly’ are evident in every detail of these airplanes.  From the Wright Brothers wooden model to the ’60s Blackhawk, Titan II rocket, and the behemoth ‘Spruce Goose’, a person has to take a moment and marvel at the evolution of the flying aircraft in such a relatively short time.

A person looks at these inventions in their entirety while pondering the question ‘how can such a mass of metal fly?’ while noting the beautiful design, lines and angles as art.  A person then takes a closer look at each of the components that make up an aircraft.  They are individual peices of functioning art that make up the entire aircraft; an equipment mosaic if you will.

After experiencing this mechanical art, a person is left longing to experience aircraft that is both current today and the prototypes of tomorrow, while having fun pondering what will aircrafts be like in 2050.

… Boeing where do I sign up?
